March 22 – LivingRoom Lesson for KIDS

Dear FPC Families,

Though our church family isn’t able to meet in person this week, we are all together in spirit – and we can stay connected! FPC is trying something new for Sunday School this week – called “LivingRoom Lessons.” Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be using the “Deep Blue Kids” Sunday School curriculum. Each week, you will receive a scripture passage to read together, a link to a short video to watch, some questions to discuss, and a fun craft or activity to enjoy. I hope that your family will find some time in the next few days to relax, get comfy, and discuss this week’s “LivingRoom Lesson.” If you have thoughts or questions to share, please post those in the comments section below!

Deep Blue Kids Episode 4: Jesus Breaks the Bread

Step 1: Read the Scripture

Before watching the video linked below, please read this scripture passage aloud with your family. Get creative – act out the parts if you wish!

Luke 22:7-20

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.” “Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.

He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters, and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.” They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

Step 3: Discussion Questions (feel free to add your own!)

  1. Think about the friends we met in the video. They remembered some special meals they had shared with each other. What are some special meals your family shares?
  2. What was the name of the special festival Jesus and his disciples were celebrating?
  3. What happened at the meal Jesus had with his friends?
  4. During a communion service at our church, before we eat the bread and drink from the cup, we say we do this “in the remembrance of Jesus.” What does this mean and why is it important?

I miss seeing all of our families, but I’m so grateful for the many ways we can remain connected through this uncertain time. Know that I’m praying for your family, and I hope that we all stay safe and healthy and are together again soon!

Love and Blessings!
Miss Karen
